A forewarning for the future of the Newcastle CBD due to the impact of climate change and sea-level rise.
MOODBOARD by Abby Hick
We have created a film that focuses specifically on the rising tides as well as life in the future, combined with an artistic display of theorised future newspapers from Newcastle, hung from the ceiling alongside mirrors.

The newspapers represent the daily life of the audience cementing this as an integral part of our expression and personal choices.
The newspaper articles will detail the effects of the rise in sea-levels, and are suspended from the ceiling above the rest of our project so that people can walk through them and read them as they experience the work. The mirrors also hold significant meaning as their symbolic ability to reflect elements of the exhibition and draw on the element of water and its reflective capacity. The concept of reflection can also be interpreted to reminding viewers to reflect on our actions as humans who are gradually harming the earth and ask viewers to attempt to see themselves in a world of sea-level rise.

The film takes sea-level predictions to the extreme in an artistic and metaphorical scene which shows a citizen continuing to live their life in a flooded state, symbolising the continuing ignorance towards the issue. We have also created a soundtrack for the film to help convey and express the meaning and message of the film, and tie together the artistic and contemporary display.

OUR PURPOSE
The essential aim of this project is to educate and act as a warning of the detrimental effect of human pollution and disregard for the environment.
The film, in tandem with its sculptural counterpart, creates an overarching theme of disaster and environmental urgency.
We aim to inform our audience in a subject matter that is both entertaining, intriguing; whilst also being informative and thought-provoking.
