ARTIST'S STATEMENT:
We created our poster with both the intent to draw in our intended audience of the community of Newcastle CBD and to give a glimpse into the themes, aesthetic and topics we address in our exhibition, presenting this both visually and texturally.
It addresses our stress on the life of the individual in the near future, and questions the viewer's ability to survive a flooded, dystopic environment. The figure in the middle represents a society underwater, floating in the middle to characterise the uncertainty of a future we cannot control on our own.
It highlights who we are, what we do, and what we stand for, in an attempt to connect and draw in the people of Newcastle, who just like us, risk a future where our beloved world falls apart before our eyes.

ARTIST'S STATEMENT:
“The Overflow Project” film is an absurdist dramatized representation of the future of Novocastrian lives. It aims to evoke a strong emotional response and forces the viewers to imagine themselves living in this dystopic world of sea-level rise. It takes the simplistic daily ritual of eating lunch and places it into a morbid context.
It was filmed entirely in my home, with the COVID19 world we live in providing immeasurable challenges, including having to build my set, film, act, and co-direct alone with Charlotte on Zoom watching and providing what advice and direction she could. I edited this project using montage techniques developed by Sergei Eisenstein as well as intensive overlaying to create elusive effects and evoke certain emotional responses.
THE SOUNDTRACK

ARTIST'S STATEMENT:
“Times Are Changing” is the soundtrack for the film and sets the dark and dramatic tone for the future impacts of climate change and rising sea levels. It is meant to express and convey the message of the film and get a reaction from the viewers. The gloomy sound and tone of the soundtrack should help to evoke an anxious and concerned feeling from the audience, as it assists in showing a warning of what may come in the near future if we don’t make a change and act today. The use of orchestral instruments in the piece, such as the violin, the cello, the double bass and the piano, help to create the dramatic sound in the composition. As referenced on the “our inspiration” page, Lana Del Rey and John Williams were both huge inspirations in the making of this piece, as Lana Del Rey creates music with a cinematic quality and John Williams is a film composer, and therefore their style and genre was similar to what we were going for in this soundtrack.

ARTIST'S STATEMENT:
This grouping of fictitious newspaper articles, are based around the possible submerged future of the Newcastle area. I aimed to write them in a way that highlights the absurdity of the idea, but also puts forward facts that make the reader aware that it's not entirely implausible.

ARTIST STATEMENT (VIOLET LEONARD):
This moving sculptural element reflects the impermanence our natural environment greatly relates too. It is a symbolic visualisation of the terrifying pace at which our world is changing due to climate change and how icecaps melting in - what seems to be - the far-off land of the Antarctic can have a direct effect on our lives in Newcastle.
